Year 2 Trip to the Zoo
Year 2 ventured to Bristol Zoo this term to get hands on experience of mini-beasts! We had a great day. We handled meal worms (who were very wriggly!) and visited the butterfly garden, among lots of other things. Best of all the sun shone!
Y6 Production - Pirates of the Curry BeanWhat a wonderful show our talented Year 6 children performed last night. Worlebury's Royal Birthday Picnic - 11th JuneWhat a huge success this was. Not only did it raise £430.92 for the school, but it was a day enjoyed by the whole community. It was lovely to see Worlebury staff, governors, parents and children, Worlebury residents and members of the parishes of St Paul’s and St Peter’s taking part and enjoying the many activities of the day. A big thank you must be said to all the staff, parents, governors, residents and church community for all their help and a very special thank you to Mrs Pincott for all her hard work in organising this fantastic and memorable event!

Outdoor Play AreaParents are reminded that the use of the adventure playground after school, including weekend events, is done so at their own risk and that parent/carers are solely responsible for supervising the safe use of the areas at this time. The equipment is recommended for primary aged children only. Hooke Court 2016We're having a great time! Kayaking was awesome! We got very wet and played lots of games. Here we are on our 'forest orienteering'. We touched the magic tree and made a wish; it was very peaceful. Last night we sang songs around the campfire. Some of us were still singing this morning! English CurriculumAt Worlebury St. Paul’s Primary School we pride ourselves on a creative English curriculum which aims to inspire all children. We will help children develop the skills and knowledge that will enable them to communicate effectively and creatively through spoken and written language and equip them with the skills to become lifelong learners See our English Curriculum page for new English resources that will help you to support your child. Weston Arts FestivalCongratulations to our Key Stage Two Choir who came first in their category at Weston Arts Festival on Friday. They were awarded a distinction and received positive comments from the judges. Worlebury ChoirThank you to members of Worlebury's choir who were able to come along and sing at St Paul's Church fete. The sun shone, the cakes were delicious and the singing was lovely.

After School ProvisionWe are pleased to say that our Breakfast Club providers (Sport to Schools) are able to run an after school club provision from Term Five. See letter below. All bookings need to made directly with Sport to Schools. Sport to School After School Club Letter Safeguarding Training UpdateAll staff have undertaken general awareness training around the Government’s Prevent Duty. Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including political and religious extremism. See below a guidance leaflet which helps parents/carers to understand what the Prevent Duty is about. If you have any questions, feel free to come and speak to our head, Mrs Bamford. Prevent strategy - leaflet for parents Worlebury Conference – A Real Success! On behalf of all the staff and governors, thank you to all who were able to come along to Worlebury Conference! During the evening we listened to Dr. Tom Robson discuss growth mindset and how we can encourage our children to be problem-solvers and to consider how the language we use can impact our children. As a group we considered how we can enable our children to aim to keep their learning in the ‘challenge zone’ as opposed to the ‘comfort zone’ and therefore develop the children’s resilience, collaboration, perseverance, motivation and resourcefulness. To finish the evening we revisited the school’s vision… “A school community where everyone participates excels and has a love of learning; where we respect ourselves, one another and live life to the full, helping others to do the same”.

The key aim of the week is to allow children to make a noise about bullying. We want to encourage children to identify the signs of bullying and to be able to seek help for themselves or others.
Key Stage 2 HarvestOn Friday 16th October, Key Stage 2 attended St Paul's Church in Kewstoke for their Harvest Festival. It was a lovely service led by Reverend Geoff Eales which reminded us all of the importance of sharing at Harvest time.

Year 3 and 4 EgyptologistsOn Monday 28th September Years 3 and 4 visited Bristol Museum and Art Gallery to discover more about the Ancient Egyptians as part of their Learning Theme. We were treated to a fantastic workshop where we investigated real and replica artefacts from ancient Egypt. By asking questions and making careful observations we were able to work out which people in Egyptian society would have owned the objects. We also explored the Egyptology area and became experts on Egyptian belief, life, death and afterlife. Thank you to all the adult volunteers who helped and made our trip possible.
Poetry Workshops by James CarterOn Tuesday 29th September, Worlebury St Paul’s was visited by poet and guitarist James Carter. James believes that “poems are the most fun you can have with words” and he certainly proved this with his wonderfully entertaining assemblies for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, and his workshops for every class in the school. The children were inspired to write fabulous poems, some of which will be sent to James for him to read and comment on. He has a number of excellent books for children which can be found at the following website: http://www.jamescarterpoet.co.uk/booksforchildren.html Comments from the children: “He was very inspiring and extremely funny.” “It was an amazing experience and it really helped me to develop my writing.” “It was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. I learnt that you can get ideas from everywhere and you always need to keep your mind open.”
Governor VacanciesA successful school is one where everyone works together as a team to provide the children with the opportunity to receive motivational and relevant learning and encouragement to develop their potential. We have vacancies on our Governing Body for two Parent Governor. A Parent Governor must be: · a parent or carer of a registered pupil at the time of their appointment or election, · appointed by the Governing Body or elected by their fellow parents or carers of registered pupils at the school, by a secret ballot if we have more candidates than vacancies. See link to documents below for more information:

Book Sale - Year Rthe story continues.....Following on from the book sale article below, as you know we raised £32 and are now sending it to a Children's Hospice (Charlton Farm) in Weston. We are so proud of our youngest children.
Greatwood 2015Beautiful morning at camp.... Book Sale - Year RYear R were set the challenge of becoming authors. We had to base our stories on a theme being loyalty or power. We planned our stories and then set about designing a front cover, title page, blurb and actual story.
We then re-drafted our stories and then we became publishers and wrote the stories out in pen.
We decided how much we should sell our stories for (£1) and then set about inviting our parents in to buy our books.
They were all very impressed with how hard we had worked. In total we raised £32 and are planning on sending it to a Children's Hospice (Charlton Farm) in Weston.
Family Zone - Wednesday 25th March
Children and parents from Worlebury and other schools attended a Space Workshop after school run by Worle School's Extended Learning Service. It was an informative and fun session enjoyed by all!
African Inspired Food
In Term 3 Year 5 had a fantastic term exploring the continent of Africa. They have used atlases to investigate different countries, researched the different rivers, become knowledgeable about the variety of landscapes and created their own African myth inspired by traditional stories. Everyone loved finding out about the lemurs on Madagascar and before letting their imaginations run wild and creating a newly discovered African animal which was written about in a detailed report. To finish off, we enjoyed tasting African fruits and designing our own Morocan inspired cous cous dish. Our cooking skills have definitely improved and it was great to feast on healthy tagine and cous cous on the last day of term.
British Values
The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” See Teaching British Values at Worlebury Recognition and ConsequencesAs a school we have reviewed our Behaviour Rewards and Sanctions checklist in consultation with staff and children. We have decided to use the terms Recognition and Consequences and have fewer steps before the children get to the purple and red card. The system is used for children in Year One to Year Six . Year R use their class system using the Sun, Cloud and Star.
